EXPLANATIONS BELOW
Concept note-1: -A border incident between Ethiopia and Italian Somaliland that December gave Benito Mussolini an excuse to intervene. Rejecting all arbitration offers, the Italians invaded Ethiopia on October 3, 1935.
Concept note-2: -In 1935, the Italian army under Mussolini invaded Abyssinia (modern day Ethiopia). Mussolini wanted to recreate the Roman Empire and was a prominent member of the League of Nations.
Concept note-3: -Benito Mussolini, the Fascist leader of Italy, had adopted Adolf Hitler’s plans to expand German territories by acquiring all territories it considered German. Mussolini followed this policy when he invaded Abyssinia (now Ethiopia) the African country situated on the horn of Africa.
Concept note-4: -In October 1935 Italian troops invaded Ethiopia – then also known as Abyssinia – forcing the country’s Emperor, Haile Selassie, into exile.
Concept note-5: -Further motives were the prospect of economic gains in the form of oil, coal and gold and of African recruits for the Italian army. Mussolini also thought of East Africa as a fertile area for Italian settlement, given the expected increase in population from the Battle for Births.
