EXPLANATIONS BELOW
Concept note-1: -Enrico Tellini (August 25, 1871 – August 27, 1923) was an Italian General whose assassination provoked the Corfu incident of 1923.
Concept note-2: -The murder of the Italian General Tellini at the Greek-Albanian frontier in the summer of 1923 by unknown murderers gave Rome the pretext to proceed to a rather premeditated demonstration of power, manifested by the occupation of Corfu by a unit of the Italian war navy.
Concept note-3: -On 27 August 1923, Tellini and two aides, plus an interpreter and a chauffeur, were ambushed and assassinated by unknown assailants at Kakavia’s border crossing, near the town of Ioannina in Greek territory.
Concept note-4: -In August 1923 Italians forming part of an international boundary delegation were murdered on Greek soil, leading Benito Mussolini to order a naval bombardment of Corfu. After the Greeks appealed to the League of Nations, the Italians were ordered to evacuate but Greece was forced to pay Italy an indemnity.
Concept note-5: -On October 28, 1940, the Italian Duce, Benito Mussolini, invaded northern Greece from Albania, which was at that time under Italian control.
