Concept note-1: -A ceasefire (also known as a truce or armistice), also spelled cease fire (the antonym of ‘open fire’), is a temporary stoppage of a war in which each side agrees with the other to suspend aggressive actions. Ceasefires may be between state actors or involve non-state actors.

Concept note-2: -A truce is a stoppage of fighting between two or more people or sides in a conflict, especially a temporary one. The agreement, or treaty, that establishes such a stoppage can also be called a truce.

Concept note-3: -CeaseFire. A cease-fire is an agreement that regulates the cessation of all military activity for a given length of time in a given area. It may be declared unilaterally, or it may be negotiated between parties to a conflict.

Concept note-4: -The term ‘ceasefire’ is the antonym of the military expression ‘open fire’ and signifies a call to terminate hostilities. Ceasefire agreements are regularly announced as part of a peace process and can suggest a level of commitment between warring parties to seek an end to armed conflict.

Concept note-5: –Comes from Latin armistitium-from arma, “arms, ” and-stitium, “stoppage"-and means a temporary cessation from fighting or the use of arms, or a short truce.
