The canal’s construction was financed and supervised by the U.S. government and took 10 years to complete.

Concept note-2: -The Panama Canal officially opened on August 15, 1914, although the planned grand ceremony was downgraded due to the outbreak of WWI. Completed at a cost of more than $350 million, it was the most expensive construction project in U.S. history to that point.

Concept note-3: -Work under U.S. supervision began in 1904, and the Panama Canal was completed in 1914.

Concept note-4: -The Panama Canal is an artificial 82 km waterway in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean. The canal cuts across the Isthmus of Panama and is a conduit for maritime trade.
