Concept note-1: -The Spanish-American War was a conflict between the United States and Spain that effectively ended Spain’s role as a colonial power in the New World. The United States emerged from the war as a world power with significant territorial claims stretching from the Caribbean to Southeast Asia.

Concept note-2: -The United States also annexed the independent state of Hawaii during the conflict. Thus, the war enabled the United States to establish its predominance in the Caribbean region and to pursue its strategic and economic interests in Asia.

Concept note-3: -In the Spanish-American War of 1898, the U.S. seized control of the Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. After these acts of imperialism, when one country extends its authority over another, the U.S. became a world power.
