THE SPANISH AMERICAN WAR

[SOURCES]
How did the United States respond to the blockade of Venezuela by several European powers in the early 1900s?

(A) ** The United States helped arbitrate the debt settlements that led to the blockade and adopted a policy of intervention in Latin American affairs known as the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine.

(B) The United States negotiated a peaceful end to the blockade in exchange for Venezuela’s aid in fomenting revolution in Colombia and gaining the territory to construct the Panama Canal.

(C) The United States bought the rights to the Venezuelan debt that had led to the blockade, effectively ending the blockade and securing peaceful relations with Venezuela.

(D) The United States deployed its navy to secure safe passage for US trading ships and successfully undermined the blockade until the European powers ended the unsuccessful blockade.
