Imperialism

(A) ** The idea of taking over another nation and claiming it as your own is referred to as imperialism. Often countries try to take over other countries because they are more powerful than the weaker country and they are trying to control the economic and political affairs of weaker countries or regions.

(B) A heavy warship of a type built chiefly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with extensive armor and large-caliber guns.

(C) A group of ships sailing together, engaged in the same activity, or under the same ownership. An example would be the US Navy.

Concept note-1: -Imperialism can be defined as a doctrine, political strategy, practice, state policy, or advocacy that consists in extending power by territorial acquisition or by extending political and economic control outward over other areas.

Concept note-2: -Answer: When a country establishes its economic and political control over any other country it is known as imperialism. The imperial country tries to maintain its strict control over the resources of colonial countries. The countries which encouraged the policy of imperialism were the following: Great Britain.

Concept note-3: -Economic imperialism is minimally defined as the export of capital from one country to another.

Concept note-4: -Colonialism in modern usage also tends to imply a degree of geographic separation between the colony and the imperial power.
