Concept note-1: -A Supreme Court judge of the former Kingdom of Hawaii, Sanford Ballard Dole helped establish the Republic of Hawaii and was its only president. He was instrumental in the annexation of the islands by the United States and became the first governor of the Territory of Hawaii.

Concept note-2: -Sanford Ballard Dole, (born April 23, 1844, Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands [U.S.]-died June 9, 1926, Honolulu), first president of the Republic of Hawaii (1894–1900), and first governor of the Territory of Hawaii (1900–03) after it was annexed by the United States.

Concept note-3: -In 1899 James Dole arrived in Hawaii with $1000 in his pocket, a Harvard degree in business and horticulture and a love of farming. He began by growing pineapples. After harvesting the world’s sweetest, juiciest pineapples, he started shipping them back to mainland USA.

Concept note-4: -In January 1893, a revolutionary “Committee of Safety, ” organized by Sanford B. Dole, staged a coup against Queen Liliuokalani with the tacit support of the United States. On February 1, Minister John Stevens recognized Dole’s new government on his own authority and proclaimed Hawaii a U.S. protectorate.
