Concept note-1: -On its face, the statehood struggle was a painful, sixty-four year process that was tightly connected to the themes of modernization and Americanization, as well as the development of Spanish American ethnic identity and debates over the role of the Spanish language in New Mexico.
Concept note-2: -Admission to Statehood Congress passed an act on June 20, 1910, to authorize the people of the New Mexico and Arizona Territories to form constitutions and state governments. Upon approval by Congress, these states would finally be admitted into the Union.
