Concept note-1: -The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on December 10, 1898. As a result Spain lost its control over the remains of its overseas empire–Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines Islands, Guam, and other islands.

Concept note-2: -Treaty of Paris, (1898), treaty concluding the Spanish-American War. It was signed by representatives of Spain and the United States in Paris on Dec. 10, 1898. Armistice negotiations conducted in Washington, D.C., ended with the signing of a protocol on Aug.

Concept note-3: -On December 10, 1898, the Treaty of Paris was signed, ending the Spanish-American War. Most of the countries addressed by the treaty had been fighting for their freedom from Spain for decades, such as the Cuban soldiers in the photo. None of them were represented at the signing of the treaty.
