Concept note-1: -In the United States, sugarcane is produced in Florida, Louisiana, and Texas. Acreage of sugarcane for sugar rose from an average 704, 000 acres in the first half of the 1980s to 903, 400 acres in FY 2020/21.
Concept note-2: -Sugar industry is an important agro-based industry that impacts rural livelihood of about 50 million sugarcane farmers and around 5 lakh workers directly employed in sugar mills.
Concept note-3: -Sugarcane is a modified stem. When we eat the sugarcane, we are actually eating the stem of the plant.
Concept note-4: -With this, India has emerged as the world’s largest producer and consumer of sugar as well as the world’s 2nd largest exporter of sugar. The season has proven to be a watershed season for Indian Sugar Sector.
