Theodore Roosevelt led a band of soldiers call the Rough Riders to fight in the Spanish American War. The MOST important reason he did this was to:

Concept note-1: -Roosevelt recruited a diverse group of cowboys, miners, law enforcement officials, and Native Americans to join the Rough Riders. They participated in the capture of Kettle Hill, and then charged across a valley to assist in the seizure of San Juan Ridge, the highest point of which is San Juan Hill.

Concept note-2: -The Rough Riders was a nickname given to the 1st United States Volunteer group of soldiers, who fought in the Spanish-American War. They were lead by THEODORE Roosevelt. Rough Riders captured Kettle Hill and San Juan Hil. This ended the Spanish American War.
