Concept note-1: -To preclude European intervention, in December the Roosevelt Corollary asserted a right of the United States to intervene in order to “stabilize” the economic affairs of small states in the Caribbean and Central America if they were unable to pay their international debts.

Concept note-2: -The most spectacular of Roosevelt’s foreign policy initiatives was the establishment of the Panama Canal. For years, U.S. naval leaders had dreamed of building a passage between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through Central America.

Concept note-3: -Roosevelt Corollary, foreign policy declaration by U.S. Pres. Theodore Roosevelt in 1904–05 stating that, in cases of flagrant and chronic wrongdoing by a Latin American country, the United States could intervene in that country’s internal affairs.

Concept note-4: -In 1904, Roosevelt put the United States in the role of the “police power” of the Western Hemisphere and set a course for the U.S. relationship with Central and Latin America that played out over the next several decades.

Concept note-5: -The corollary stated that not only were the nations of the Western Hemisphere not open to colonization by European powers, but that the United States had the responsibility to preserve order and protect life and property in those countries.
