Concept note-1: -The Battle of Manila Bay was started due to the exploding of a naval ship near the coast of Havana harbor. Once war was declared, the U.S. troops sailed off to the Philippines to battle against a Spanish troop. April 25th, 1898, Congress had officially declared war against Spain.

Concept note-2: -In January 1898, violence in Havana led U.S. authorities to order the battleship USS Maine to the city’s port to protect American citizens. On February 15, a massive explosion of unknown origin sank the Maine in the Havana harbor, killing 260 of the approximately 400 American crewmembers aboard.
