Concept note-1: -Europe was now divided into the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey and their allies) and the Triple Entente (Britain and the British Empire, France and Russia and their allies), with countries such as Spain, Albania, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden remaining neutral.

Concept note-2: -The majority joined on the side of the Allies, including Serbia, Russia, France, Britain, Italy and the United States. They were opposed by Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire, who together formed the Central Powers.

Concept note-3: -Italy and the Allied forces of France, Britain, and Russia to bring Italy into World War I. The Allies wanted Italy’s participation because of its border with Austria.

Concept note-4: -World War II the chief Allied powers were Great Britain, France (except during the German occupation, 1940–44), the Soviet Union (after its entry in June 1941), the United States (after its entry on December 8, 1941), and China.

Concept note-5: -Triple Entente, association between Great Britain, France, and Russia, the nucleus of the Allied Powers in World War I.
