Concept note-2: -Although the United States promised it would not annex Cuba after victory, it did require Cuba to permit significant American intervention in Cuban affairs. As a result of the war, the United States acquired Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines as territories.

Concept note-3: -In 1898, the United States assisted in war to protect its citizens and businesses in Cuba. This war was known as the Spanish-American War.
