Concept note-1: -Queen Lili’uokalani in 1900. Queen Lili’uokalani was the last sovereign of Hawai’i. Many continue to admire Lili’uokalani for her resolute and peaceful resistance to the US businessmen who ended her reign and to the United States’ annexation of Hawai’i during the 1890s.

Concept note-2: -Queen Lili’uokalani (1838-1917), born in Honolulu and the daughter of a high chief and chieftess, was the first sovereign queen, and the last monarch of Hawai’i. She assumed the throne in 1891, following the sudden death of her brother King David Kalakaua, but her reign was short-lived.

Concept note-3: -Abigail Kinoiki Kekaulike Kawananakoa is Hawaii’s last living princess. She descends from an Irish businessman named James Campbell, who came to Hawaii in the 1800s and made a ton of money off his sugar plantation.

Concept note-4: -Liliuokalani withdrew from public life and lived until 1917, when she suffered a stroke and died at the age of 79.
