Concept note-1: -On May 7, 1915, the German submarine (U-boat) U-20 torpedoed and sank the Lusitania, a swift-moving British cruise liner traveling from New York to Liverpool, England. Of the 1, 959 men, women, and children on board, 1, 195 perished, including 123 Americans.

Concept note-2: -On the afternoon of May 7, 1915, the British ocean liner Lusitania is torpedoed without warning by a German submarine off the south coast of Ireland. Within 20 minutes, the vessel sank into the Celtic Sea. Of 1, 959 passengers and crew, 1, 198 people were drowned, including 128 Americans.

Concept note-3: -Explanation: In May 1915, the Lusitania was sank by a German U-Boat (submarine) off the coast of Ireland. About 1200 lives were lost, many hundreds of whom were American. Naturally, the Americans became angry that the Germans sank a ship full of passengers without provocation.

Concept note-4: -The Cunard liner was attacked by U-20 commanded by Kapitänleutnant Walther Schwieger. After the single torpedo struck, a second explosion occurred inside the ship, which then sank in only 18 minutes.

Concept note-5: -Preston said. The ship’s manifest made no secret that it carried weapons in its hold, including 4, 200 cases of Remington rifle cartridges and 1, 250 cases of shrapnel shells and fuses.
