Concept note-1: -In 1943 the Army Air Forces organized some support units for the China-Burma-India theater, including the 14th Air Service Group, composed predominantly of Chinese-American personnel. Other Chinese-Americans trained as pilots and aircrew and fought in Europe and the Pacific.

Concept note-2: -It has been estimated that between 12, 000 and 20, 000 Chinese-American men, representing up to 22 percent of the men in their portion of the U.S. population, served during World War II. Unlike Japanese and Filipino Americans, 75 percent served in non-segregated units.

Concept note-3: -The United States and China were allies during World War II and more than 250, 000 Americans served in what was known as the “China-Burma-India” theater. Here, a U.S. sergeant and a lieutenant, both members of the Y-Force Operations Staff, demonstrate methods of disarming the enemy with a bayonet to Chinese soldiers.

Concept note-4: -Despite numerous instances of discrimination, many Asian Americans joined the U.S. Army and served with distinction during World War I on the battlefields of France. Following the war, Soldiers of Asian ancestry were recognized for their contributions to the war effort and were allowed to become naturalized citizens.
