Concept note-1: -As millions of men and women entered the service and production boomed, unemployment virtually disappeared. The need for labor opened up new opportunities for women and African Americans and other minorities. Millions of Americans left home to take jobs in war plants that sprang up around the nation.

Concept note-2: -Immediately following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, millions of men were called to duty. When these men joined the armed forces, they left behind millions of jobs. Instantly, the nation faced a labor shortage that was filled by workers who had previously been denied many employment opportunities.

Concept note-3: -Why did the U.S. enter World War II? The U.S. entered WWII because the Japanese bombed U.S. battleships and airplanes at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The U.S. declared war on the Axis powers on December 7, 1941.
