Concept note-1: -It is commonly stated in this context that there were three turning point battles, following which the Allies gained the offensive: Midway, El-Alamein, and Stalingrad.

Concept note-2: -June-July 1944: Saipan In what became known as the Battle of the Philippine Sea, American and Japanese carriers fought a two-day sea and air battle off the coast of Saipan. It would go down as one of the biggest carrier battles of World War II. Japan lost three aircraft carriers and more than 300 planes.

Concept note-3: -After U.S. atomic bombs devastated Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan accepted terms of surrender. On September 2, 1945, aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, the brutal Pacific War came to an end.

Concept note-4: -Pearl Harbor attack, (December 7, 1941), surprise aerial attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor on Oahu Island, Hawaii, by the Japanese that precipitated the entry of the United States into World War II. The strike climaxed a decade of worsening relations between the United States and Japan.
