Concept note-1: -How were Richard Russell’s and Carl Vinson’s approaches to growing Georgia’s economy similar or different? Both of them used their government positions to improve the state’s education system and reduce unemployment.

Concept note-2: -Some 320, 000 Georgians served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, and countless others found employment in burgeoning wartime industries. Their experiences were pivotal in determining the state’s future development, and the war itself marked a watershed in Georgia’s history.

Concept note-3: -Georgia’s military bases played a crucial role in preparing the nation’s soldiers for war. Many soldiers, sailors, and aviators were trained in Ga. Several of the bases in Georgia also served as prisoner of war camps which housed Germans and Italians. Many prisoners stayed in Georgia after the war.

Concept note-4: -The economic impact of the Savannah and Brunswick shipyards on Georgia communities was huge. More than 15, 000 employees, many of which were women, built 88 Liberty ships at the Savannah shipyard. The J. A. Jones shipyard in Brunswick turned out 99 Liberty ships in just two years.
