Concept note-1: -Nimitz served as commander of all the United States land and sea forces in the Pacific during World War II. He was one of the U.S. Navy’s foremost administrators and strategists. Chester William Nimitz was born in Fredericksburg, Texas, on February 24, 1885. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1905.

Concept note-2: -Nimitz, (born Feb. 24, 1885, Fredericksburg, Texas, U.S.-died Feb. 20, 1966, near San Francisco), commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War II. One of the navy’s foremost administrators and strategists, he commanded all land and sea forces in the central Pacific area.

Concept note-3: -NIMITZ IN WORLD WAR II Nimitz was serving as Chief of the Bureau of Navigation when the Japanese Imperial Navy attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. President Franklin D. Roosevelt chose Nimitz from among 28 flag officers, all of whom were senior to him, to take over command at Pearl Harbor.

Concept note-4: -Husband Edward Kimmel (February 26, 1882 – May 14, 1968) was a United States Navy four-star admiral who was the commander in chief of the United States Pacific Fleet (CINCPACFLT) during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
