Concept note-1: -The first World War was won by the Allies consisting of the United Kingdom, France, United States, Japan, Italy. They defeated the Central Powers consisting of Imperial Germany, Austro-Hungary Empire and the Ottoman Empire.

Concept note-2: -The German soldiers attempted to push Britain and its allies back with a series of offensives, or attacks. But on 8 August 1918, the French and British armies launched the Hundred Days Offensive-a counter-attack, which pushed the Germans back.

Concept note-3: -The war pitted the Central Powers-mainly Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey-against the Allies-mainly France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan, and, from 1917, the United States. It ended with the defeat of the Central Powers.

Concept note-4: -THE START OF THE WAR The assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand (June 28, 1914) was the main catalyst for the start of the Great War (World War I). After the assassination, the following series of events took place: July 28-Austria declared war on Serbia.
