EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -The D-Day operation of June 6, 1944, brought together the land, air, and sea forces of the allied armies in what became known as the largest invasion force in human history. The operation, given the codename OVERLORD, delivered five naval assault divisions to the beaches of Normandy, France.

Concept note-2: -On 6 June 1944, D-Day, Allied troops landed on the coast of Normandy. It was the start of the campaign to liberate Europe and defeat Germany.

Concept note-3: -Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which, “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5, 000 Ships and 13, 000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end, the Allies gained a foot-hold in Continental Europe.

Concept note-4: -General Dwight D. Eisenhower was appointed commander of Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force. General Bernard Montgomery was named commander of the 21st Army Group, which comprised all land forces involved in the invasion.

Concept note-5: -On June 6, 1944, the long-awaited Allied landing in northern France began. Facing Hitlers Atlantic Wall, soldiers of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations landed on beaches in Normandy, beginning a campaign which lasted until July 24, 1944.
