EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -Triple Entente, association between Great Britain, France, and Russia, the nucleus of the Allied Powers in World War I.

Concept note-2: -Germany’s growing strength and manifest pursuit of ‘world power’ status persuaded Britain to align with its traditional rivals: France in 1904 and Russia in 1907. This connected Britain, France and Russia in the ‘Triple Entente’ and stoked German fears of ‘encirclement’.

Concept note-3: -The objective of the alliance was to encourage co-operation against the perceived threat of Germany. Three years later, Russia, who feared the growth in the German Army, joined Britain and France to form the Triple Entente.

Concept note-4: -The Triple Entente was the name given to the alliance (partnership) between Russia, France, and Britain, during World War I. These countries were also known as the Allies, and were fighting against Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Turkish Ottoman Empire.

Concept note-5: -In World War II, the three great Allied powers-Great Britain, the United States, and the Soviet Union-formed a Grand Alliance that was the key to victory.
