Concept note-1: -The major causes of World War II were numerous. They include the impact of the Treaty of Versailles following WWI, the worldwide economic depression, failure of appeasement, the rise of militarism in Germany and Japan, and the failure of the League of Nations.
Concept note-2: -This increase in militarism helped push the countries involved into war. The immediate cause of World War I that made the aforementioned items come into play (alliances, imperialism, militarism, nationalism) was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary.
Concept note-3: -On the home front, the massive mobilization effort during World War II had put Americans back to work. Unemployment, which had reached 25 percent during the Great Depression and hovered at 14.6 percent in 1939, had dropped to 1.2 percent by 1944-still a record low in the nation’s history.
Concept note-4: -Why was unemployment generally low after the end of World War II? High consumer demand led to increased production and employment. People worked harder to find a job than they do nowadays. The economy remained on a war-footing in order to keep employment artificially high.
