EXPLANATIONS BELOW
Concept note-1: -The League of Nations (1920 – 1946) was the first intergovernmental organization established “to promote international cooperation and to achieve international peace and security”. It is often referred to as the “predecessor” of the United Nations.
Concept note-2: -The League of Nations consisted of three main organs. The Assembly, where all member states were represented on equal footing; the Council which was composed of permanent and non-permanent members; and the Secretariat which performed the day-to-day work at the League’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
Concept note-3: -It was the first international organization whose principal mission was to maintain world peace. Its primary goals, as stated in its Covenant, included preventing wars through collective security and disarmament and settling international disputes through negotiation and arbitration.
Concept note-4: -It was founded on 10 January 1920 by the Paris Peace Conference that ended the First World War. The main organization ceased operations on 20 April 1946 but many of its components were relocated into the new United Nations.
