Concept note-1: -The Anschluss (German: [ˈʔanʃlʊs] ( listen), or Anschluß, lit. ‘joining’ or ‘connection’), also known as the Anschluß Österreichs ( pronunciation (help. info), English: Annexation of Austria), was the annexation of the Federal State of Austria into the German Reich on 13 March 1938.

Concept note-2: -Anschluss, German: “Union”, political union of Austria with Germany, achieved through annexation by Adolf Hitler in 1938.

Concept note-3: -The next day, March 12, 1938, German troops entered Austria, and one day later, Austria was incorporated into Germany. This union, known as the Anschluss, received the enthusiastic support of most of the Austrian population and was retroactively approved via a plebiscite in April 1938.

Concept note-4: -The Anschluss was the Nazi German regime’s first act of territorial aggression and expansion. The Anschluss was widely popular in both Germany and Austria. The Anschluss resulted in an outburst of public violence against Austria’s Jewish population.

Concept note-5: -On April 10, 1938, Austrians were asked whether they supported the March 13 Anschluss. 99.75% of voters said that they supported Germany’s annexation of Austria into the Third Reich.
