Concept note-1: -The Germans believed that American merchant ships, by delivering supplies, were contributing in a real way to the success of their enemy, Great Britain.

Concept note-2: -The entry of the United States was the turning point of the war, because it made the eventual defeat of Germany possible. It had been foreseen in 1916 that if the United States went to war, the Allies’ military effort against Germany would be upheld by U.S. supplies and by enormous extensions of credit.

Concept note-3: -From April 1917 until November 1918, four German U-boats visited the East Coast of the United States and sank 10 vessels off North Carolina’s coast and 200 U.S. vessels in total.
