The Zoot Suit Riots pitted Mexican American youths against

Concept note-1: -The committee’s report indicated that there were several factors involved but that racism was the central cause of the riots and that it was exacerbated by the response of the Los Angeles Police Department as well as by biased and inflammatory media coverage.

Concept note-2: -The Zoot Suit Riots and were important for the recognition of African-Americans and Mexican-Americans in the United States. It had a positive effect on ethnic consciousness among Americans of Mexican descent, and also for the recognition of separate MexicanAmerican identity, but no linguistic impact.

Concept note-3: -It was Mexican youth who adopted the attire as an unofficial uniform of resistance. Riots erupted in various cities across the nation, and the racial tension brewing in Los Angeles placed the Mexican American struggle front and center.
