Concept note-1: -Stalemate has become a widely used metaphor for other situations where there is a conflict or contest between two parties, such as war or political negotiations, and neither side is able to achieve victory, resulting in what is also called an impasse, a deadlock, or a Mexican standoff.

Concept note-2: -Stalemate. ▪ A deadlock in which neither side is able. to defeat the other.

Concept note-3: -Stalemate is a situation in which neither side in an argument or contest can win or in which no progress is possible.

Concept note-4: -Stalemate describes a condition in war in which neither side can change the front lines dramatically no matter how hard it tries. WWII never reached stalemate in Europe. The opponents alternated offensive and defensive campaigns but were almost always moving. World War I epitomized stalemate.

Concept note-5: -a situation in which neither group involved in an argument can win or get an advantage and no action can be taken: Tomorrow’s meeting between the two leaders is expected to break a diplomatic stalemate that has lasted for ten years. Despite long discussions, the workers and the management remain locked in stalemate.
