EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -On September 3, 1939, in response to Hitler’s invasion of Poland, Britain and France, both allies of the overrun nation declare war on Germany.

Concept note-2: -1, 1939, the British gave Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler an ultimatum: pull out of Poland, or else. Hitler ignored the demand, and two days later, on Sept. 3, 1939, Britain and France declared war.

Concept note-3: -France and Britain responded to the invasion of Poland by declaring war on Germany on September 3, 1939. But they did not engage in a major battle with Germany until spring 1940, when the French, especially, found little success in halting the German advance in western Europe.

Concept note-4: -Why did Great Britain and France finally declare war on Germany in September 1939? They had pledged to defend Poland against Hitler, who attacked it from the west. What was significant about America’s Selective Training and Service Act in 1940? It was the first peacetime draft in the country’s history.

Concept note-5: -Britain and France believed that Poland was a continuation of Hitler’s take over of Europe, even though Germany had legitimate grievances over Danzig and access across the Polish Corridor (Separating Germany and East Prussia).
