Concept note-2: -In 1940–1944 he gained national prominence as chairman of the Truman Committee, which was aimed at reducing waste and inefficiency in wartime contracts. Truman was elected vice president in 1944 and assumed the presidency following the death of Roosevelt.

Concept note-3: -Truman became President of the United States with the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt on April 12, 1945.

Concept note-4: -On April 12, only weeks before Germany’s unconditional surrender on May 7, President Roosevelt died suddenly in Warm Springs, Georgia, bringing Vice President Harry S. Truman, a veteran of the United States Senate, to the presidency.

Concept note-5: -Although exempted from the newly ratified Twenty-second Amendment, Truman did not run again in the 1952 election because of his low popularity. He was succeeded by Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953.
