Why is the D-Day battle significant?

Concept note-1: -It was the largest amphibious assault in history. Over 150, 000 men were landed on a heavily defended set of beaches on the western edge of Hitler’s vast empire. To get them safely lodged ashore the largest fleet in history had been assembled – 7, 000 boats and ships.

Concept note-2: -The D-Day operation of June 6, 1944, brought together the land, air, and sea forces of the allied armies in what became known as the largest invasion force in human history. The operation, given the codename OVERLORD, delivered five naval assault divisions to the beaches of Normandy, France.

Concept note-3: -On 6 June 1944 – ‘D-Day’ – Allied forces launched the largest amphibious invasion in the history of warfare. Codenamed Operation ‘Overlord’, the Allied landings on the beaches of Normandy marked the start of a long and costly campaign to liberate north-west Europe from Nazi occupation.

Concept note-4: -6 June 1944 entered history under the now legendary name of D-Day, the Allied landings on the beaches of Normandy. It was the most dramatic part of Operation Overlord, that marked the beginning of the liberation of German-occupied Western Europe.
