Concept note-1: -1. Explain why the period from 1914 to 1918 is viewed as a turning point in U.S. history? It is the first time for the US to participate in a major war in Europe.

Concept note-2: -After 1945, historians found the term “First World War” appropriate because they saw 1914-1918 as the first of a particular type of international conflict-the world’s first industrialised “total” war-which had been followed by a second industrialised world war of this kind-1939-1945.

Concept note-3: -Germany’s resumption of submarine attacks on passenger and merchant ships in 1917 became the primary motivation behind Wilson’s decision to lead the United States into World War I.

Concept note-4: -World War I, also known as the Great War, began in 1914 after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. His murder catapulted into a war across Europe that lasted until 1918.

Concept note-5: -When World War I broke out in Europe in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson declared the U.S. neutral. By 1917, President Wilson announced, “the world must be made safe for democracy” which brought the nation into war, reshaping its role in the world.
