EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -To show disapproval of the king’s decision, the prime minister and his government resigned. Claiming he was trying to prevent a civil war, Victor Emmanuel appointed Benito Mussolini as prime minister. The king met Mussolini during World War I and was also a reader of Mussolini’s newspaper Il Popolo d’Italia.

Concept note-2: -In 1922 Mussolini led a coalition of fascist leaders to Rome and forced the king to yield the government. Mussolini was appointed prime minister. By 1925 he had dismantled Italy’s democratic government and, acting as a dictator, declared himself Il Duce ("The Leader").

Concept note-3: -On 31 October 1922, following the March on Rome (28–30 October), Mussolini was appointed prime minister by King Victor Emmanuel III, becoming the youngest individual to hold the office up to that time.

Concept note-4: -In June 1924, assassins with ties to Mussolini killed socialist leader Giacomo Matteotti, prompting opposition deputies to boycott the Parliament. On January 3, 1925, Mussolini essentially took responsibility for that assassination in a speech to Parliament that is seen as the start of his Fascist dictatorship.

Concept note-5: -Benito Mussolini was an Italian political leader who became the fascist dictator of Italy from 1925 to 1945. Originally a revolutionary socialist and a newspaper journalist and editor, he forged Italy’s violent paramilitary fascist movement in 1919 and declared himself prime minister in 1922.
