EXPLANATIONS BELOW
Concept note-1: -How did Wilson’s goals for the peace differ from those of other Allied leaders? Woodrow Wilson mainly wanted self-determination and democracy for various countries, whereas France wanted to weaken Germany so it could never again threaten France.
Concept note-2: -The treaty did not call for limitations to be placed on Germany’s military as the Fourteen Points did. Unlike the Fourteen Points, the Treaty of Versailles called for harsh punishments to be placed on Germany. The Fourteen Points were developed in secret, but the Treaty of Versailles was developed completely in public.
Concept note-3: -Refusing to agree to the “reservations” necessary to gain vital support from moderate Republicans, Wilson suffered major defeats as the Senate rejected the treaty in November and again the following March.
Concept note-4: -The Treaty of Versailles included a plan to form a League of Nations that would serve as an international forum and an international collective security arrangement. U.S. President Woodrow Wilson was a strong advocate of the League as he believed it would prevent future wars.
