Concept note-1: -The Allies won World War I after four years of combat and the deaths of some 8.5 million soldiers as a result of battle wounds or disease. Read more about the Treaty of Versailles.

Concept note-2: -The major Allied powers in World War I were Great Britain (and the British Empire), France, and the Russian Empire, formally linked by the Treaty of London of September 5, 1914.

Concept note-3: -The Allied strategy of staying on the defensive in 1918 had turned into an offensive on a grand scale. The German Spring offensives had unwittingly caused an Allied strategic rearrangement leading to Germany’s defeat in November 1918.

Concept note-4: -The Allied Powers were largely formed as a defense against the aggression of Germany and the Central Powers. They were also known as the Entente Powers because they began as an alliance between France, Britain, and Russia called the Triple Entente. France-Germany declared war on France on August 3, 1914.
