Concept note-1: -The prominent players of this treaty were those countries that won the First World War, UK, US, Italy, Japan and France. But the defeated powers like Germany, Austria and Turkey were not invited to the conference.
Concept note-2: -Yet at the same time, Germany was not allowed to join the League of Nations – an insult. Germany had to pay £6, 600 million ‘reparations’, a huge sum which Germans felt was just designed to destroy their economy and starve their children.
Concept note-3: -The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, by 66 representatives from 32 different countries. The countries were split into three parties, which were led by the Principal Allied and Associated Powers of Britain, France, Italy, Japan and the United States.
Concept note-4: -Austro-German Alliance, also called Dual Alliance, (1879) pact between Austria-Hungary and the German Empire in which the two powers promised each other support in case of attack by Russia, and neutrality in case of aggression by any other power.
