EXPLANATIONS BELOW
Concept note-1: -France’s main objective was to gain as much security as it could from the treaty, the tried to achieve this by weakening Germany as much as possible, draining its financial resources and its arms resources. Georges Clemenceau also thought that dividing Germany into different territories would prevent another war.
Concept note-2: -The Treaty of Versailles (signed in 1919) and the 1921 London Schedule of Payments required Germany to pay 132 billion gold marks (US$33 billion [all values are contemporary, unless otherwise stated]) in reparations to cover civilian damage caused during the war.
Concept note-3: -France wanted to regain its territory in the Rhineland. Great Britain sought reparations, or payments for damages, from Germany. It also wanted to prevent any future squabbles with the country in hopes for a future trade relationship.
Concept note-4: -The Treaty of Versailles didn’t just blame Germany for the war-it demanded financial restitution for the whole thing, to the tune of 132 billion gold marks, or more than $500 billion today.
