EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -He wanted ‘justice’, but he did not want revenge. He said that the peace must not be harsh – that would just cause another war in a few years time.

Concept note-2: -In reality, delegates to the Paris peace conferences had their own objectives: The British Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, wanted to protect Middle East interests (key to the security of the Indian Empire), as well as to secure German colonies and limit commitment in Europe.

Concept note-3: -At the Paris Peace Conference, the French Prime Minister, Georges Clemenceau, controlled his delegation and his chief goal was to weaken Germany militarily, strategically and economically.

Concept note-4: -Lloyd George’s main objective at the conference was to protect British interests and build strong relationships with other world powers, especially the United States (MacMillan 42).

Concept note-5: -All three wanted to stop a war ever happening again, but they did not agree about how to do this; everybody wanted different things from the peace. Many people genuinely wanted peace – they wanted the Great War to be ‘the war to end all wars’.
