Concept note-1: -The blockade is considered one of the key elements in the eventual Allied victory in the war. The German Board of Public Health in December 1918 claimed that 763, 000 German civilians had already died from starvation and disease, caused by the blockade. An academic study done in 1928 put the death toll at 424, 000.

Concept note-2: -The First World War had a crippling effect on Germany. The war reparations that Germany was expected to pay, severely affected the economy. It lost Alsace and Lorraine to France. The situation in Germany aided the growth of Adolf Hitler.

Concept note-3: -It led to the Russian Revolution, the collapse of the German Empire and the collapse of the Hapsburg Monarchy, and it led to the restructuring of the political order in Europe and in other parts of the world, particularly in the Middle East.

Concept note-4: -In the aftermath of World War I, Germans struggled to understand their country’s uncertain future. Citizens faced poor economic conditions, skyrocketing unemployment, political instability, and profound social change.

Concept note-5: -Hunger stalked the civilian populations of all the combatant nations. Agriculture and food distribution suffered from strains imposed by the war and naval blockades reduced food imports. Some countries met this threat more successfully than others.
