Concept note-1: -French President George Clemenceau wanted Germany to be severely punished. He wanted Germany to be weakened so they would not be able to pose any threat to France in the future. The two countries had a history of conflict and bordered each other.

Concept note-2: -Both Great Britain and France had suffered tremendous casualties during the war and faced serious economic problems because of the war’s costs. The two countries’ leaders wanted to see Germany pay reparations for the cost of the war and accept the blame for causing the war.

Concept note-3: -Initially, France-who was represented by George Clemenceau-wanted to punish Germany for the war they felt the Germans had caused. France wanted to regain its territory in the Rhineland. Great Britain sought reparations, or payments for damages, from Germany.

Concept note-4: -France’s main agenda was to destroy Germany by every means, that includes economy, national security, so much so that it could weaken the country from its roots. France wanted to secure itself from any further damage. The real gain for France was the Alsace-Lorraine.
