Concept note-1: -Holding office for over seven years, Sir Benegal Rama Rau was the longest-serving governor, while Amitav Ghosh’s 20-day term is the shortest. The bank’s fifteenth governor, Dr Manmohan Singh, later became India’s thirteenth prime minister.
Concept note-2: -The Governor of a State is appointed by the President for a term of five years and holds office during his pleasure. Only Indian citizens above 35 years of age are eligible for appointment to this office. Executive power of the State is vested in Governor.
Concept note-3: -Sir Benegal Rama Rau, a member of the Indian Civil Service, was the longest serving Governor of the Bank. Prior to joining the Bank he served as the Indian Ambassador to the United States.
