Concept note-1: -Iowa was won by the Democratic nominee, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the state next door, by a 9.54% margin of victory. Obama took 53.93% of the vote while his Republican opponent, Senator John McCain of Arizona, took 44.39%.

Concept note-2: -Elected President Romney picked up wins in 16 counties that Obama had won in 2008, most of which were in the western half of the state, while only one county, (Woodbury), flipped in the opposite direction. The state would end up voting Republican in 2016, and again in 2020.

Concept note-3: -Obama won 332 electoral votes and 51.1% of the popular vote compared to Romney’s 206 electoral votes and 47.2%.
