EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -Crocodilians have a four-chambered heart – just like people! And just like the circulatory system in people, the heart takes in deoxygenated blood from the body, sends it to the lungs to become oxygenated, the blood comes back to the heart, where it will then be pumped to the rest of the body.

Concept note-2: -Keeping crocodiles as pets There are two species of crocodiles that may be kept as pets-saltwater crocodiles and freshwater crocodiles. Both need similar conditions in captivity. To keep a crocodile you must get a permit to keep protected wildlife.

Concept note-3: -Crocodiles Crocodiles can have almost 60 teeth at any one time, double the amount of teeth that we have! A crocodile can have over 2000 teeth during its lifetime and they too lose their teeth fairly regularly just like sharks.

Concept note-4: -Evolutionary relationships Crocodiles are an ancient group of archosaurs, first appearing in the fossil record in the Late Triassic over 200 million years ago. The oldest ‘modern’ crocodile (Eusuchia) may be Isisfordia duncani, from the middle Cretaceous of Queensland.
