Concept note-1: -A roster of the regiments and organizations under the command of General Robert E. Lee.
Concept note-2: -George Gordon Meade, commanding the United States Army of the Potomac, and Robert E. Lee, commanding the Army of Northern Virginia, first clashed at Gettysburg in July of 1863.
Concept note-3: -Robert E. Lee commanded the Army of Northern Virginia, the most successful of the Southern armies during the American Civil War, and ultimately commanded all the Confederate armies. As the military leader of the defeated Confederacy, Lee became a symbol of the American South.
Concept note-4: -Robert E. Lee was the Confederate general in charge of the Army of Northern Virginia and at the end of the war Supreme Commander of remaining Confederate forces. Lee was considered to be one of the finest generals in the United States at the outbreak of succession and was offered command of Union armies but declined.
