Concept note-1: -Ethos-The Ethical Appeal. Ethos is Greek for “character” and “ethic” is derived from ethos. Ethos consists of convincing your audience that you have good character and you are credible therefore your words can be trusted.

Concept note-2: -Your ethical appeal is increased by the level of your credibility. You can increase your credibility, or your ethos, with your authority, character, sources, fairness and error-free presentation. Ethical appeals are one of the three methods of persuasive writing; the other two are logical appeals and emotional appeals.

Concept note-3: -Ethos is all about credibility-is the source coming from research that is reliable and has a good reputation? A writer can use ethos to show readers why they are the best person to be writing or talking about a particular topic or issue.

Concept note-4: -Ethical Appeal (ethos) Ethical appeal is used to establish the writer as fair, open-minded, honest, and knowledgeable about the subject matter. The writer creates a sense of him or herself as trustworthy and credible.

Concept note-5: -In rhetoric and rhetorical studies, ethos represents credibility, or an ethical appeal, which involves persuasion by the character involved. The term has its roots in Aristotle’s “ingredients of persuasion, ” or “appeals.” He divides means of persuasion into three distinct categories: ethos, pathos, and logos.
