Concept note-1: -The Battle of Antietam remains the bloodiest single day in American history. The battle left 23, 000 men killed or wounded in the fields, woods and dirt roads, and it changed the course of the Civil War.

Concept note-2: -Beginning early on the morning of September 17, 1862, Confederate and Union troops in the Civil War clash near Maryland’s Antietam Creek in the bloodiest single day in American military history.

Concept note-3: -Why was Antietam so deadly? Advanced technology, unwise tactics, and terrible decision-making. The combination of new rifles that could be shot with great accuracy from far away and old-fashioned battle lines led to unprecedented deaths in the Battle of Antietam (and in the Civil War in general).

Concept note-4: -Adams County, PA | Jul 1-3, 1863. The Battle of Gettysburg marked the turning point of the Civil War. With more than 50, 000 estimated casualties, the three-day engagement was the bloodiest single battle of the conflict.
